CROSS-CURRENTS

  • CROSS-CURRENTS is a collaborative moving-image installation created as part of the Open Northfleet programme. Fusing strands of animation, film, music and poetry to create a piece that brings work by local creatives together on a shared stage under the creative direction of Elle Tennyson, Harriet Hammond and Hannah Whittaker. 

     

    Projected onto a familiar domestic scene, the installation captures the beautiful interference of thought and perspective that runs through our community. You can tune into a tangle of stories and hear as memories cross wires, and witness a collection of imagined worlds merging into a dynamic display built through open calls as well as community animation workshops led by Ernesto Moisei-Gallardo. 

     

    The installation debuts at St Botolphs Church Hall on Saturday 3rd October, as part of the wider ON programme.

LEAD ILLUSTRATOR

ERNESTO MOISEI-GALLARDO

Ernesto Moisei-Gallardo creates cartoonishly absurd demons, mutants and grinning grotesques that look like they are caught mid-transformation.

 

Working under the name ecamoga, they build fantastical narratives through saturated illustrations, character design and lo-fi animation, using a blend of analogue materials combined with digital techniques, layering the absurdity until the frame feels like it's about to burst.

 

Their work channels comic books, monster movies, 90's/00's animation and psychedelic poster art into a style that is equal parts punk energy and classic panel craft. It is chaotic, loud and pure maximalism.

 

Half Bolivian, half Romanian, Ernesto has found community wherever they end up calling home. As a first-generation immigrant and someone directly impacted by displacement, Ernesto uses their experience to spread curiosity, humour and empathy through their art.

 

Ernesto recently moved to Gravesend, Kent, and is actively looking to contribute to and help grow the town's creative community.

PROJECTION DESIGNER AND CO-SET DESIGNER 

Hannah Whittiker

Hannah Whittaker is a multidisciplinary artist and creative technologist based in Kent, working across installation, moving image, projection, interactive technology, sculpture and animation. Her practice explores how technology can create playful, immersive and participatory experiences, often combining digital processes with tactile, analogue materials and low-tech methods.

Hannah’s work frequently brings audiences into the centre of an artwork, using projection mapping, sensors, interactive sound and moving image to transform spaces and create opportunities for people to experiment, play and tell stories. She is particularly interested in the meeting point between technology, storytelling and place, and in finding accessible ways for audiences to engage with new technologies.
